Sunday 19th December 2004 PROFESSOR K. PILIKIAN WINS AGBU VILLAGE NAME COMPETITION
In August 2004 AGBU London launched the Artsakh Village Name Competition, inviting members of the UK Armenian community to submit names for a new village being built by AGBU London, as part of the AGBU Norashen Centennial Project. Twenty-one submissions were received.
The winner is Professor K. Pilikian of London who submitted the name of “Pareshen”, a play on the Armenian words Parekordzagan”, meaning benevolent and “shen” meaning to build, both words symbolising the ethos of the AGBU Centennial project of reconstruction.
Professor Pilikian, in a kind and thoughtful gesture, donated the prize of £160 worth of Eurostar vouchers back to AGBU London and asked that the prize be used for future fundraising events for the construction of the village, building on the good work achieved so far by AGBU London.
The photo shows Professor Pilikian with members of the AGBU Executive Committee (left to right Annie Kouyoumdjian Vice Chairman, Bedros Aslanyan Hon. Treasurer, Professor Pilikian, Harout Aghajanian Chairman and Sevan Aghajanian Hon. Secretary) who met to congratulate Professor Pilikian and to thank him for his generosity.
AGBU London would also like to thank all those who submitted village names and made donations to a value of £390 to the Norashen Fund with their submissions.
